The Danger of Complacency!!

Dear Readers,   23 September 2012

Ever get stuck in a rut that you can't seem to escape? It wears deeper and deeper until before you know it, you have developed a habit you cannot break without true effort. There is a particular type of rut that is more dangerous than others, and that is the dreaded process of becoming accustomed to being average.

We're humans...we get special privileges. In one of his two letters included in the Bible, Peter tells them that they have heard things that "even the angels long to look into". Genesis 1 says we were made in the image of God, and 2 Corinthians simply says, "you were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men."

With all of this favorable attention, you would think that we would live our lives eager to pursue excellence in all things. Unfortunately, I've become lazy in this regard. I've developed a mindset that says "So long as you're not in trouble for not doing anything, you're doing better than others." Not only is this lazy, but it is selfish and feeds conceited thoughts. By just doing the bare minimum, I'm not getting anywhere in life! You ever climbed the ladder by being complacent?

I'm not saying I should be dissatisfied, but frankly that's what I am right now. I am dissatisfied with my recent slump in writing, in reading, in being creative. I've let technology hook me in ways that I've preached against in the past, so that right now I feel like the big "h" word: "hypocrite". Of course, we're all hypocrites, but that's another topic. And just because everybody does it doesn't mean it's OK.

I've always wanted to do something that mattered with my life. To touch at least one person in a way that would positively affect his/her life. By scanning Facebook and Pinterest for hours at a time, scrolling through new songs on Spotify, or flipping through sitcom after sitcom on Netflix, those dreams that I've always had are not going to get any more realistic. It's time to GET OFF MY BUTT AND DO SOMETHING!!!

Sorry, this post is really strange. I don't believe I've ever published one so riddled with random and rants, but I needed to write something or my brain juices were going to dry up. My dear readers, you are such angels for putting up with my rambles. Please pray that I will continue to be encouraged towards excellence, and that I'll be able to think of something actually beneficial that I can write about. I love you all!
